Technology
The Paradise Valley office of Scottsdale dentist Dr. Matthew Bayne, DDS is one of the best equipped offices in the country. This affords us the advantage of being able to provide the best possible dental care in the most predictable manner.
Comfort Technology
N2O Laughing Gas technology. Laughing gas is a mild sedative that makes dental visits more enjoyable and comfortable. Our laughing gas delivery system has large central tanks of medical grade nitrous oxide and medical grade oxygen. We do not use the “scuba tanks”. The medical gases are delivered to each chair through underground copper pipes to retain purity. Each dental chair has its own advanced microcomputer controller to monitor levels of oxygen and nitrous and to ensure your safety and comfort. This is the best nitrous oxide delivery system available in the world.
Oral sedation. Our office can utilize diazepam (valium) or a similar oral sedative to safely and comfortably reduce people’s anxiety or nervousness. This allows for a calm, relaxing dental appointment. Most people take a nap, and when they wake up, have a new smile.
Local anesthetic. Our office has every available style of local anesthetic. In addition to the lidocaine that most general dentists use, we also have citanest (good for shorter procedures, and is up to 80% less “pinchy”) and septocaine (very strong anesthesia) and marcaine (very long lasting anesthesia, so your teeth don’t “wake up” during the procedure). Technology advancements have come a long way in dental anesthetic, and we are at the leading edge of this anesthetic technology to ensure your comfort.
Dental Technology
Materials. Dental materials have undergone exciting advancements in recent years. The ceramics and porcelains that we use are cutting edge, and the composites are from the most highly regarded manufacturers. In addition to the color selection that is available for general dentists. The light, bright, vibrant colors that we use are only available to dentists like Dr. Bayne that have dedicated their practice to cosmetic and reconstructive dentistry. Bonding technology. The dental bond is an adhesive that permanently adheres the dental restoration to your tooth. The stability of this bond is the cornerstone of adhesive dentistry, including dental veneers, Lumineers, porcelain crowns, inlays, and Onlays, and white composite fillings. General dentists generally use one style of bonding agent in their office: the kind designed for crowns. This style contains amines and HEMA, which change color over time. Dentists like Dr. Bayne, who are committed to providing the best, most natural restorations with the best longevity, know that dental veneers placed with amine-containing bond will turn grey in a few years. Properly applied knowledge of organic chemistry can make your dental veneers more color stable and last longer. (More on adhesive dentistry ... [link to adhesive dentistry page])
Plasma ARC light. Dental adhesives and white composite dental fillings are light activated. A specific wavelength of blue light (470 nanometers) “cures” the composite or resin and makes it hard and durable. While many general dentists use a halogen light source, some have opted for handheld LED’s. Dr. Bayne takes it one step further and utilizes a Sapphire Plasma ARC light source to cure and harden the dental resins and adhesives. The Plasma ARC light has six times more penetration power than halogen or LED’s, and contains no harmful UV rays. This deeper penetration results in a greater and more thorough polymerization of the dental resin, more durable dental fillings, and dental veneers that are more predictably bonded to your teeth. Halogen and LED lights do not penetrate as deeply through the porcelain veneer, so the cure of the adhesive can be incomplete. Only true cosmetic and restorative dentists such as Dr. Bayne utilize the Plasma ARC technology. The benefit to you is stronger, longer lasting restorations and dental veneers that don’t randomly pop off. (More on Plasma ARC technology ... [link to plasma arc page])
Micro dentistry. Micro dentistry is a specific system of micro abrasion and exceptionally small instruments to restore teeth, usually with no shots or anesthesia. Appropriate for very small cavities, Dr. Bayne likes it because it is so prudent, and the removal of healthy tooth enamel is avoided. (More on micro dentistry ... [link to microdentistry page]
Safety Technology
Governmental safety standards are the bare minimum requirements mandated by law for patient safety. Most dental offices meet these requirements. In today’s world, do you really want the bare minimum in sterilization, or do you want the best? Dr. Bayne utilizes the highest degree of sterilization to protect you and your family from cross contamination. Our sterilization center is absolutely state of the art, and employs heat, steam, and chemical sterilization techniques in addition to touch less pneumatic cabinetry to eliminate cross contamination. After debridement, our instruments are placed in cassette trays, and then dried in a hot air drier prior to being wrapped in surgical paper and sterilized. This is the best and most effective method for sterilization. (More on dental sterilization ... [link to safety technology page]
The air and water that is sprayed into your mouth is also purified and filtered, so that the air and water is surgically clean and contaminate free. Not only does this increase your safety, it also creates a stronger adhesive bond for dental veneers placed by Dr. Bayne, so your veneers won’t randomly pop off. (More on biofilm ... Computer Technology
Our office is fully computerized. Your data is secure with 128 bit encryption, similar to data security used by banks. Our hard drive is backed up online nightly, so your digital X-rays will not be lost.
The nice thing about being fully computerized is the correct maintenance of your dental records. There are no paper charts that can be lost or misplaced or filed in the wrong location. Your data is secure and legible.
Being fully computerized, we are able to take a digital panoramic x-ray and instantly view it, chair side. You don’t have to wait for a half hour while someone is off developing X-rays. The superior resolution of digital X-rays allows Dr. Bayne to more accurately diagnose and predictably treat complex dental cases. (More on digital x-rays ... [link to digital xrays page])
Computer simulations technology and computer mapping. Dr. Bayne’s commitment to provide leading edge dental care and customized smile design allow us to pre plan your dental care and make computer simulations, computer mapping, and “blueprints” before your treatment even begins. Because your smile design is so important, an accurate plan is needed. This takes the guesswork out of the equation. Dr. Bayne can accurately diagnose problem areas of your smile and treat you accurately. This results in the most pleasing and harmonious outcome. Planning your treatment accurately and providing your care in a logical sequence are hallmarks of true cosmetic and restorative dentists like Dr. Bayne. This results in the best dental outcome. Digital Imaging. The computers in Dr. Bayne’s office, and the chair side dual monitor setup allow for more than just the viewing of the digital X-rays. Dr. Bayne has a special camera that fits inside of your mouth to take pictures and video of your teeth, tongue, gingiva (gums), from an inta oral perspective. This tour of your mouth can be viewed by you in real time, and is very educational. Have you ever wondered what the backside of your back molar looks like? Now we can show you on a 19 inch medical grade computer monitor, instantly! (More on digital imaging ... [link to digital imaging page])
Digital photography. The digital SLR camera in our office is a 10 megapixel Nikon D80, fitted with a specialized clinical lens system and custom flash mounts. Using special mirrors, Dr. Bayne takes high resolution close-up digital pictures of your teeth before and after dental care. These images are stored in your permanent dental record. This further reduces the amount of x-rays that you are exposed to. (More on digital photography ... link to digital photography page])
