The most attractive, aesthetic smile is a clean, healthy smile! Dr. Bayne and his team recommend that most people get their teeth cleaned every six months. Our cleanings are very thorough, and involve removing any surface tartar, polishing off surface stains and debris with an ultrasonic Cavitron, then polishing with either paste or a Prophy-Jet, which is similar to a pressure-washer. There is nothing quite like the great feeling that you get after having your teeth cleaned! Our Registered Dental Hygienist will also give you individualized, specific instructions on things you can do at home on a daily basis, so that you can maintain that fresh, bright, kissably clean feeling for a long time. And you can be more confident about your breath because you know that all that stinky tartar is gone! If you want kissably-clean teeth in time for New Year's Eve, give us a call at (480) 621-4077 to set up an appointment for a Dental Cleaning! What exactly is it? A regular dental cleaning is called a "Prophy" and takes about an hour. A prophy is a Dental Cleaning that stays above the gumline. Deep cleanings are called "Scaling and Root Planing" and usually takes a couple of visits, followed by a touch-up visit. Deep cleanings named for cleaning any tartar that may lie under the gumline, and the Hygienist cleans deep below the surface level of your gums (up to five-and-a-half-millimeters). Deep cleanings sometimes require a bit of local anesthesia, delivered via injection, lidocaine patch, or a non-injected gel that is placed on your gums with a cotton swab. Of course, Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) is always available as an adjunctive service for those people who request it. Midlevel cleanings have various names and procedure codes, depending on the depth and severity of the tartar.
How much does it cost? About $100-125 for a Prophy, and about $250-300 per "quad" for Scaling and Root Planing. Is it covered by dental insurance? Usually, as it directly affects you dental health.
