Dentures
Scottsdale dentist Dr. Matthew Bayne enjoys helping people smile, and chew their food better, even when they are missing their teeth. Dentures can help.
Not all dentures are equal. While cheaper economy dentures are less expensive in the short term, they often require denture adhesives for retention. Loose, ill fitting dentures are problematic for many reasons. In addition to difficulty in chewing, dentures that slip or fall off during normal conversation can be distracting. Worse, economy dentures have a tendency to cause long term problems with a person’s TMJ, or jaw joint. This results in pain when biting or chewing food. Incorrect height of the denture teeth can cause a person’s face to look shrunken, because the distance from the nose to the chin is insufficient. Inadequate bulk of the pink denture resin can also cause a person's face to appear shrunken and overly wrinkled. Teeth that are too long or too bulky in the opposite direction can cause chewing problems and sore spots on the gums.
Prosthodontics is the study of the design, fabrication, and delivery of artificial teeth for situations in which the teeth have been lost.
Correctly made dentures that take into account the neuromuscular relationship between the TMJ joint of the jaw, and the muscles that are used for chewing, as well as the teeth themselves are comfortable to wear and are completely functional. Additionally, when the denture teeth are made to the correct height, then the correct distance between the nose and chin is achieved, so facial collapse is reduced and or stabilized.
Dr. Bayne was originally trained by the great prosthodontist Dr. Charles Bolender, DDS MS, whose skill in denture design and fabrication are legendary. To date, Dr. Bayne has fabricated approximately 2,000 arches of dentures, and his experience and empathy shows in the quality and comfort felt by his satisfied patients. In Scottsdale, Dr. Bayne is the go to Dentist for comfortable dentures.
You may have a friend in Scottsdale who has denture related TMJ jaw joint pain. If so, feel free to refer them to our Paradise Valley dentist office, and we would be glad to help.
