Dental Implants:
to restore missing teeth
Dental Implants are a way to restore teeth that are lost or missing. The concept is not new; however there have been some major advancements dental implant technology lately.
Dental implants are an easy way to replace missing teeth. Dental Implants are great because not only do you get your tooth back, also, there is no drilling of the adjacent anchor teeth. This makes Dental implants one of the most minimally invasive ways to restore a missing tooth.
What is an implant?
The implant itself mimics an actual tooth root. The implant is a titanium post that is bio-compatible to your body. The titanium post is surgically placed where the missing tooth once was. The implant ultimately functions as an anchor to a new porcelain crown.
What is the procedure of having an implant placed?
The procedure of implant placement is relatively quick and is often placed by a specialist. Once the implant is placed into your bone, the bone takes between a few weeks to a few months to adhere to the new titanium implant, a process called osseointegration. Once the implant is firm and solid, Dr. Bayne takes a very accurate silicone polyvinylsiloxane impression of the head of the implant that is at the gumline. At that point, the impression (sometimes called a mold) of your dental implant is sent to the dental laboratory and a Dental crown is fabricated to fit over the head of the implant. Once your new crown returns to the office (usually two weeks later), Dr. Bayne permanently glues the implant crown in place.
Now you have a new, fully functional tooth - and no more empty space in your mouth!
Dr. Bayne is a firm believer in Dental implants as being the most optimum treatment choice for most people.
